Feel better in under one minute

There are many things you can do to improve senior wellness and eliminate stress. However, not everyone has the time to make major commitments in their daily life. Fortunately, being healthier and feeling better doesn't have to take hours out of your day. In fact, you can boost your health in 60 seconds or less by doing a few simple actions during the day. Here are a few things you can do in under one minute to instantly improve your health:

Drink a glass of water
Being properly hydrated can make you feel better and may even ward off hunger. Often times, it's easy to mistake hunger for thirst, so drinking a tall glass of water will prevent you from reaching for an unhealthy snack. In addition, drinking enough water can make you feel more alert. Next time you feel peckish or fatigued, have a cool glass of water to feel better right away.

Go in for an embrace
Studies have shown that hugs lasting for 10 seconds or longer can have beneficial health effects. In fact, touching and holding hands can also release the same kinds of good feelings as hugging. Touching, cuddling and hugging lowers the stress chemical called cortisol, which can make you feel better in just seconds. The reduction of cortisol can also lower blood pressure and boost the immune system, making you healthier.

"Cortisol suppresses the immune response," Roberta Lee, vice chair of the Department of Integrative Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City, told CNN. "Anything that increases the relaxation response triggers the restoration of your immune response."

Take a deep breath
The body has a natural stress reducer built in: deep breathing. Studies have shown that those afflicted with asthma, chronic pulmonary disease and heart failure can benefit from practicing breathing exercises, NPR reported. Breathing slowly and deeply can be relaxing, lowering blood pressure and the heart rate, which can reduce stress. Most people don't think about breathing throughout the day, but if you spend a few seconds taking a couple deep breaths, you may feel more centered and able to go about your business. Next time you need to relax, take a deep breath in and hold for five seconds before releasing the breath for 10 seconds if you can.
